Individual Work
Location: Beacon Centre, Eastbourne, UK
The project involves introducing a kiosk into the Beacon Centre in Eastbourne. Upon exploring the site, the iconic Bandstand and its unique features caught my attention. However, the Bandstand has transitioned from regular openings to occasional pop-up operas. This inspired me to create a flexible pop-up opera space.
Traditionally, performances were static with minimal stage changes. To bring new experiences to both performers and viewers, I decided to design a versatile space that allows for various expressions and emotions.
The Busiest Bandstand in the UKoffering a variety oflive musicalentertainment with over 140 events eachyear; from Tribute Shows to 1812Firework concerts to kids entertainment.
The current bandstand was built in1935, with its unique semi-circulardesign and blue domed roof; there is noother like it in the United KingdomIt has a main arena, middle and upperbalconies and seats for 1,400.
For years, the Bandstand has thrived as a versatile musical venue, continuously evolving its program to introduce new audiences and entertainment while preserving traditional concerts. Today, it remains a significant hub for musical entertainment on the south coast, hosting approximately 140-150 concerts annually.
