Individual Work
Location: Bluecoat School, London, UK
This project introduces an installation at Bluecoat School, centered around David Bowie. Exploring his legacy, I honed in on his iconic guitar and bowling ball. Delving further, I unearthed the intricate relationship between Bowie and his creations, particularly Ziggy Stardust. This prompted contemplation on the interplay of personal and creative personas, sparking the concept of identity transformation.
To encapsulate this notion, I designed a mechanism allowing people to immerse themselves in diverse roles. Moreover, I devised a captivating game for Bowie enthusiasts, a treasure hunt for guitars. Clues are ingeniously concealed within lyrics, solvable through color and shape shifts within the installation.
Ziggy Stardust: fictional character by David Bowie, Bowie's 1972-73 stage persona
Ziggy Stardust is an androgynous, alien rock star who came to Earth before an impending apocalyptic disaster to deliver a message of hope.
David Bowie created ziggy stardust and claimed it was his alter ego. He sometimes plays this character on stage.
Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes
and screwed down hairdo
Like some cat from Japan
He could lick 'em by smiling,
he could leave 'em to hang
He came on so loaded, man,
well-hung and snow-white tan
So where were the spiders
While the fly tried to break our balls?
Just the beer light to guide us
So we bitched about his fans
And should we crush his sweet hands?
Now Ziggy played guitar,
jamming good with Weird and Gilly
And the Spiders From Mars
He played it left hand,
but made it too far
Became the special man,
then we were Ziggy's band
We passed upon the stair
We spoke of was and when
Although I wasn't there
He said I was his friend
Which came as some surpriseI
spoke into his eyes
"I thought you died alone
A long, long time ago"
I laughed and shook his hand
And made my way back home
I searched for form and land
For years and years, I roamed
I gazed a gazely stare
At all the millions here
We must have died alone
A long, long time ago
Who knows? Not me
We never lost control
You're face to face
With the man who sold the world
The event allows you to experience the fun of switching between different roles, and the scene allows you to immerse yourself in daivid bowie's songs once again.
We also have a lot of interesting trivia games for the fans. Both finding the guita and space oddity have designed puzzles that you can discover in the tickets or in the lyrics.
